Free journalists Ruben, Chris and Björn from Turkish prison

Late afternoon on October 11 2014 three German based freelance photographers Ruben Martin Neugebauer, Björn Kietzmann and Christian Grodotzki were arrested by Turkish police in Diyarbakır. They were reporting about the situation in East Turkey. According to lawyers, this happened while the three were talking to locals in a shopping mall. The police is accusing our colleagues (with German and international press cards) who work for German and international newspapers of espionage and provocation. Right now they are being held in cells of anti terror police "TEM" in Diyarbakir and are being interrogated.
Additionally, the police wants to put them on trial, possibly resulting in deportation and denial of re-entry. The time for the trial has been set to Monday, October 13th, 11am to 1pm. The German embassy, the foreign ministry and Reporters Without Borders have been informed. We are right now trying to gather more information about the arrest.
Chris, Ruben and Björn are hoping for support by the media to put pressure on the Turkish government. Since the Gezi protests the freedom of press in Turkey has been severely restricted - also for foreign reporters.

We demand the Turkish state to respect freedom of press and to adhere basic rights of journalists, so they can report on the situation in East Turkey.
